I like this text book, and I especially like the figures and tables.. they're very useful.However, I feel that it could use (perhaps at the end of the chapters) some sample problems that illustrate how all of the concepts in a given chapter come together in difficult ways. The publisher would say, "Well, that's what the study guide is for." But, I also have the study guide, and it doesn't do that in a way that is very useful.
Organic chemistry is all about how a number of different principles come together (over and over again). This text is great at the different principles, and good with them coming together. If it could be great at the coming together, like walking through a mind-bending problem or two at the end of each chapter, I would have given this five stars.
There are some tough problems at the end of each chapter, but you need the study guide for any sort of answer. That sort of publishing BS annoys me. If anything, the textbook should demonstrate the more complicated material, and the study guide should help me with the basics necessary to understand the more complicated material.
That said, compared to most other college level textbooks, this one is good. I don't have a choice in the matter of which book my professor uses, but I still looked at reviews of other textbooks. Being half way into the class, I can say that the complaints I have about this book are minor compared to the complaints others have about their textbooks. This book really does explain the basics in unambiguous terms, and the basics are always the most important things to understand.

very convenient to use, no need for hard copy anymore. access on laptop, ipad or any pad you have, even some of the smart phone.have quizs that you can practice with. hell yeah.
Great book, as far as textbooks go. Also this order was timely without problems. I have to fill 5 words.
I actually really enjoyed this course. However, in order to do well in this class, you've pretty much got to obsess over the material. Make sure you purchase the Study Guide/Solutions Manual along with it, and do all of the in-chapter practice problems, along with all of the end-of-the-chapter questions.
This was a very good ochem textbook. I took first semester with this book, then switched schools for second semester and had to buy a different book. I found it helpful to refer back to this one during later studies.
This text was written by a mother and daughter team who obviously know how to convey this subject. I absolutely LOVE this book. I have had three different Organic texts now and the others don't hold a candle to this one. The material proceeds in a sensible, orderly progr3ssion. Explanations are simple, to the point, and examples are given that tie the material into everyday applications and really peak your curiosity. Those facts and having had a teacher who is wonderfully passionate about her subject made learning organic fun and 98% successful for the very first time for me. For anybody struggling with Organic, you might also consider ordering the solutions manual and some study guides. Also, lab is a must to enhance your practical understanding (and for fun!!) I could just kiss these folks for writing such a great text!
