I just finished reading PROVE ME WRONG, my first Gemma Hart book, but it won't be my last I absolutely loved it! I didn't want to put it down, even when I absolutely had to! Everyone asked me what was wrong, due to the scowl on my face or why was I smiling so much. Yep, this book ran the gamut with the emotions while reading, I can only imagine what it was like to write! Gemma did a great job making you feel like you were right beside the characters throughout the story.Clara is a very talented artist that makes unique handmade furniture, and helps out with the local hardware store. Then Jonah drops into town and she's immediately attracted to him. She told him if he planned on staying he needed to earn his keep and help out in the hardware store. In exchange for meals and a place to stay, he could stay on her couch until he found better arrangements.
New York billionaire Jonah needed a break, before he broke! He planned on just driving until he calmed down, but soon found himself in the remote town of Irvington, Vermont. Where he found a breath of fresh air named Clara. An added bonus, the town didn't seem to know who he was! He found his break, he wants her for a night or two, then he'll return to New York refreshed. However after two weeks the billionaire playboy still didn't have his fill and didn't want to return to reality or his stressed out life. Their desire for each other made them melt together, they couldn't get close enough, nor enough of each other. But all good things must come to an end, and it does when his uncle shows up and reminds him he is needed in New York by the end of the week.
Even though this is an HEA story, it's not a typical one, there are twists, turns and surprises along the way. Do they find their way back to each other after Jonah breaks her heart, in hopes of saving her heart from his destructive ways? Or do they both move on and find their HEA with someone else? You'll have to read on to find out, but it'll be worth the read! this is one I'll DEF read again! Great job Gemma! Due to explicit sexual content and adult language this novel is recommended for readers 18 and older. Jonah Lowell, CEO, billionaire, playboy wasn't born into money and often went without eating while his mother struggled to make ends meet. At the age of 12 his mother remarries and marries another man and together they create a huge empire which is passed down to Jonah at the dislike of his uncle. The uncle seems ruthless and has many secrets and is continuously degrading Jonah and doesn't see him fit for the company but Jonah proves him wrong. After a heated discussion, Jonah takes off in his fancy sports car and just continues to drive away from New York and the fast paced business world with no destination in site until he comes upon a small town and decides to have a look around. The first person he sees is a young woman pulling a moose head and of course his curiosity gets the better of him and he has to stop and see why this young woman is dragging a moose head.
Clara Daniels is the young woman whom catches the eye of a stranger who comes to help her move her moose head. Clara is an artist and plans to use the stuffed head in a photo shoot advertising her woodworking abilities. Jonah helps Clara and is amazed at this petite woman and her art, photography but most of all, her inner strength and innocence. Since Jonah is a love and leave them kind of guy, he plans to stay in the small town just a couple days but those couple days turn into weeks as he falls for Clara. What seems like two totally different people, different lives, different goals in life and different living situations, together they find they're actually a lot of like.
After breaking Clara's heart because he feel he can't love anyone, Jonah goes back to New York, back to being a CEO, a billionaire and back to a women who will do everything in her power to become MRS. Lowell.
This was a good story, a good reminder to never forget where you came from. Big lights, big cities and all the money in the world can't bring the happiness that truth and honesty and a lot of hard work can bring.
This is a standalone, HEA story. It is about Jonah and Clara who come from very different backgrounds. I liked this story, and I probably would read it again.
Jonah is a billionaire in charge of a company his step father left him when he passed. Jonah’s uncle hates the fact that he is in charge and will do anything to keep Jonah under his control and get control of the company. After one argument that Jonah can’t handle, he drives away and doesn’t stop until he can barely stay awake. He stops in a small town to see a woman dragging a moose head around. He gets out to help her and can’t get her out of his mind.
Clara is an artist. She makes furniture and sells it to whoever will buy it. She is very talented. One morning after getting help from a stranger with her moose head, she starts to get feelings for this man. They embark on a romance for a few weeks, both feeling something for the other, but not sure what to do. However, Jonah’s past comes back and grabs him out of her life. When she realizes who Jonah actually is, she is embarrassed and upset with herself. She doesn’t want to see him again, but when she gets called to New York for her furniture she goes, not realizing Jonah will be there too.
When they meet again, can Clara forgive him for what he’s done? Or will Jonah’s ex and his uncle come between them and tear them apart?
